Hands On Community Construction Volunteers – Project Information

Hands On is a training workshop in Chapeltown providing learning and volunteering opportunities in construction and home maintenance skills.

The Community Construction Volunteers Programme offers participants the opportunity to learn some practical construction skills in the workshop e.g. joinery or bricklaying, and then put these to use on a real project.

During June and July 2010 we will be running this programme for three groups of volunteers. Each group will involve around 6 volunteers over 1-2 weeks. Volunteers will undertake some workshop based training, and then put it into practice on a community project.

We are looking for projects where they will be able to use the basic joinery and construction skills they learn in the workshop e.g. building fences, raised beds, paths etc. The projects will need to be fairly small so that they can be completed in the time available, but they could be a self-contained part of a larger project. Projects should be located in or near the Chapeltown/Harehills area and of clear benefit to the community.

If you have a project that you think might be suitable, please contact Mags Shevlin at mags@latch.org.uk or by telephone on 07969 997693

The helpline number is 0113 2021844 and opening hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 6 – 8pm, with plans to extend these in due course. Further information about SARSVL can be found at www.SupportAfterRapeLeeds.org.uk
