Banish those Monday morning blues with a Footprint Power Walk to
celebrate Walk to Work Week.
Starting on Monday 26 April, employees across Leeds are being encouraged
to get fit without the hassle and try walking to, from or at work.
You can join Leeds City Council, Leeds' universities UTravelActive
project and Sustrans from 9.30 until 4.00 on Monday for a ten minute
Footprint Power Walk. Starting from Victoria Gardens, you can power walk
around the streets of central Leeds, and get information and advice on
walking and other healthy travel options for getting
to and from work, pick up some
walking goodies and challenge cards to get you walking for the rest of
the week.
As well as the obvious health benefits of walking, leaving the car at
home means less carbon emissions. So why not try walking some or all of
the way to work or on the way home. Hop off the bus a few stops early.
Or try to fit it in to your working day, walk to meetings or stride out
with colleagues at
lunch or break times.
Register with walkingworks so you can keep tabs on how far you've walked, how many calories you've burned and earn online 'rewards' for completing challenges and going the extra mile. And don't forget to take the Leeds Climate Pledge to say that you'll reduce your carbon emissions by promising to "travel lightly".
