Yes you can...love your electricals

National Recycle Week proves you can love your old gadgets and introduces a new service from Leeds City Council.

This year's Recycle Week is the perfect opportunity to clear out your cupboards, the shed or attic and give an old, broken or unwanted small electrical gadget the chance to be useful again.  You can recycle your unwanted kettles, toasters, hairdryers, electrical toys, drills at any of Leeds City Council's household waste sorting sites.

Leeds City Council, in partnership with Curry's, are holding two roadshows during Recycle Week.  Pledge to recycle your small electricals and you will be entered into the free prize draw with the chance to win a DAB clock radio with iPod dock or an Eco kettle.

Come along to Curry's at Crown Point retail park, Leeds, LS10 1ET on Wednesday 23 or Thursday 24 June between 11am and 2pm to sign up and have a chance to win.

And while recycling is at the forefront of everyone's minds, Leeds City Council  has added a new item to the long list of products that can be recycled in green bins.

Empty aerosol cans used for products like deodorants, air fresheners and furniture polish can now be sent for recycling alongside other aluminium and steel products such as food and drinks cans. Householders should ensure that the aerosol cans are completely empty before putting them in green bins. They should also take care not to pierce or crush the cans and easily-removable plastic parts, such as the lid, should be taken off.

Under the scheme, spray cans collected in Leeds will be recycled and made into new aerosols.
