Spirit Alive is a concept that was introduced to 4 primary schools in Leeds last summer and will be delivered into 35 schools this June. It was conceived by a local businessman, adopted by Education Leeds and hopefully, will be expanded to all primary schools in the Leeds area next year.
It is a totally inclusive sports day initiative that creates a framework for children to choose those areas of activity which most suit their skills, be it sport, enterprise, music, art, media or planning and nutrition. It requires the children to work together to deliver a sports day, emphasising mutual respect, meeting clear objectives, enjoying t h e m s e l v e s a n d achieving the goals of 'Every Child Matters'. The children do everything themselves including managing budgets and running the entire day.
