Celebrating Leeds' Waterfront

Leeds’ third annual Waterfront Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

The festival takes place along the waterfront from Thwaite Mills, Clarence Dock, Brewery Wharf and this year, extending to Granary Wharf. This latest addition sits at the point where the River Aire meets the Leeds Liverpool Canal and is the newest venue for the Leeds waterfront and features a number of restaurants, bars and a hotel.

Festival goers will be able to enjoy some fabulous events at Granary Wharf including learning how to make the perfect Bloody Mary, visiting The Ministry of Chocolate, cookery demos by Wasabi and City Inn chefs, live music from the Hop and much more.

Thwaites Mill will offer a great family day out on Saturday 17 July, with free entry to the working watermill, arts and crafts, historic boats and environmental discover and play activities. On the Sunday the watermill will be open as usual.

In the city centre at Clarence Dock and Brewery Wharf there will be lots to see and do, including live music, Radio Aire, cookery workshops and demonstrations, Urban Angels aerial display, interactive art exhibitions, urban markets, walk on water balls, Civic Trust guided walks, food and drink offers, and lots more.

The festival is organised and supported by a number of private and public organisations including, Artsmix, Leeds City College, Lend Lease, Granary Wharf, City Inn, Rushbond, Welcome To Yorkshire, Aire Action Leeds, British Waterways, Leeds City Council, Yorkshire Water, Environment Agency and more. It offers a great opportunity to showcase all the waterfront has to offer residents and visitors. On the Sunday there will also be a celebration of the work of Leeds arts volunteers as part of the Leeds Year of Volunteers, featuring individual profiles and stories.

Rachel Clunas, Aire Action Leeds project officer said: “This year’s festival is even bigger than last year and it provides a special opportunity to come and enjoy the Leeds waterfront with a range of free events and something for everyone”.
